A Tale of Two Embedded Linux Distributions

“You jerk.”

My fileserver is a Raspberry Pi 3B with a 3.5” display. The SD card was dying and the OS needed an upgrade, so I decided to try out thenewest Ubuntu Server for Raspberry Pi…

It installed flawlessly, and, since my original server was an early Ubuntu for Pi, my Ansible config worked with minimal changes.

The display, however…

“No, seriously, what do I do?!?”

After fighting with it for a good two hours, I made the switch to Raspbian. My Ansible configs worked with few changes and everyone was happy.

And it was still way easier than upgrading my old SheevaPlug, a pre-Pi ARM computer. Look that one up.
